Dinning Table by designer Orfeo Quagliata |
The beginning of each new year brings renewed excitement and optimism for all the things to come. Plans are made, dreams are dreamed, work is done. This year my mind is keenly focused on time. Instead of always wishing for more time I want to carefully be mindful of how I use the precious time I am given. Not to overload every minute with a precise airtight schedule of things that will all collapse and begin to mound up with each unexpected interruption, but to schedule the normal loud demands of work and running families and also breath space for the things that are essential for our minds and bodies. Like quiet time and devotion, healthy eating, exercise, giving back, developing deeper relationships, and nurturing creativity.
One of the things that you may not realize is that creativity is extremely dependent on time. It most often does not abide to the constraints of showing up and flowing on demand one hour available this afternoon and two more hours the day after tomorrow. Creativity is organic and ebbs and flows with the daily inspiration of life and a cushion of time. Beautiful rooms are not developed in one sit down. They are laid out, thought about, curated, selected, tweaked, and eventually finalized. Rarely is what evolves identical to its beginnings.
If you feel your creativity has been a little lacking lately then my suggestion is that you, also, gift it some quality time in this new year.
I thought the picture above was fitting because just looking at it quiets my mind, slows down my heartbeat, and draws me in to it's ebb and flow. It speaks to all things creative. It is actually a glass table top exquisitely crafted by designer Orfeo Quagliata. You must go and check out the work of Studio Orfeo Quagliata here. Their work is stunning and you will be glad you did.
