Downtown Greensboro Part:2

Downtown Greensboro has several antique shops.  What is offered in each shop varies from high quality antiques to old collectibles.   Typically when shopping antique stores I am just on the hunt for unique and interesting objects with great visual appeal.  These objects make great accessories in your interiors and often are a great way to incorporate an accent color that you are using.  I am wild about architectural pieces and objects made from interesting materials.  Mixing old and new objects yields a comfortable feeling in a space. A variety of textures adds warmth and depth.

I took all of the pictures in this post at Mary's Antiques on Elm street.

These arched doors were fabulous. These would be great for a new construction that was attempting to have the end product feel like it has been around for a while. How awesome would these be as a main feature on a pool cabana?  You could build the whole structure around them.  I love the louvers combined with the arch.

There was a great assortment of old buttons.  All of you sewers keeping the tradition alive might want to check these out.  Beautiful quality buttons can definitely make a garment.

Here is a little color to satisfy my appetite.  Red windows, I can just invasion the little cottage these came from and the progressive homeowner who chose color boldness.

If your chandelier has any missing or broken crystals this may be the place you want to look.  All of you exceptional DIYers could imagine endless possibilities for these I am sure.

There was a good selection of old type set.  It is fun to dig through these and see what you find.  My mother gave me a old type set drawer when I was a young girl to house my ever growing collection of small glass animals.  They adorned the wall of my bedroom for years.  Although I no longer display my little collection for all to see I have retained my love for the drawers and type set.  I searched and found a link that shows some examples of type set being used today.

Wondering what I went home with?  Well, I have had a current fascination or attraction to old neon sign letters and typography for interior use.  I got excited when I actually found enough old neon letters to spell something that I thought would work for me.

Check out how New York designers Robert and Cortney Novogratz incorporated neon signs into some of their design projects. You should enjoy their blog.   Be sure to catch their show on HGTV when it returns. Their designs are unique and always colorful!

Addition link you may enjoy where you can purchase signage.  CB2 offers the word "relax".
