FALL

Fall...just saying the word makes me feel good inside. This is my favorite season of the year. It's like God takes a paint brush and with a few strokes recolors the world outside my window. When I feel that first whisper of cooler air I get excited for all the familiar things I love about fall: getting cozy in blankets, snuggling with someone you love, hot beverages, raking leaves, carving pumpkins, drives to the mountain and rocking on my front porch while soaking in the beauty.

This bench is one of my favorite Mother's day gifts. And no it did not look like this when it was new. How you see it is how I liked it best however, finish worn off and moss on it. Sadly, I no longer have this bench. One day it just collapsed into pieces. Now I enjoy it through this beautiful picture.

Bright yellow leaves always remind me of the leaves on the tree that stood in front of a house my husband and I rented as a young married couple. The leaves turned a brilliant yellow and seemed to all fall off in one day leaving a beautiful yellow carpet under the tree.

Fall also ushers in the cockscomb that we grow in our yard. I first fell in love with this flower while helping to make arrangements for furniture market showrooms. My friend Jim knew a lady who had a beautiful patch of it in her yard and she would let us pay to cut some of it. Now we just grow our own.

I'll end this post with the image of a bonfire. One of my favorite pictures of my husband is in front of a huge fire built when we cleared a pasture. I'm not sure what it is about men and fire but they do like their fires. And I like melting marshmallows on stick. It all works out.

Happy Fall!
