Bring On The Christmas Decorating!

Want to see the kids eyes sparkle when they see your home transformed into magical Christmas land?  Just include a little candy in your decorating and be prepared to pass a little out.  My past candy decorations have consisted of may variations of color themes and candies.  Some of them grand and others more modest like this one.  All of them included some of the old fashioned candies I remembered from childhood.  This arrangement was inspired last year by these cute little felt and knit decorations in bright kid friendly colors. It's not like I didn't have enough stuff to decorate with already but sometimes it's difficult pass up a new find. I'm sure the addition of a second granddaughter to the festivities had me in the candy and sugarplum mood.  I found gingerbread kids and monkey at Picket Fence Interiors and Gifts.

Creating any display is always a little hit and miss.  I just start by rounding up some containers, the decorative items that will be your focal point, and color coordinated ribbon. Of course for this display I wanted some candy.  One of the things I remember about going to my Grandmother Viola's house was the candy. I remember ribbon candy like above, horehound candy, christmas colored hard candy, and soft peppermint sticks.

I kinda played with arranging it on my dining table...

thought about trying to incorporate my new amazing mercury glass balls from Pottery Barn...

but I quickly found that I needed to find something like a platter to put it on to corral it all in and keep the gingerbread kids from slipping down.  I wasn't feeling how it looked on my brown dining table and I did not like the busyness in front of the red trees on my buffet.  So...

I decided to move it into the kitchen where all my past candy inspired creations have held down a corner of my kitchen island. I used a variety of fruit to fill out the platter and continue the color scheme. Look at the beautiful colors of the ribbon candy. As expected these decorations were a big hit with my two beautiful granddaughters.

This just makes me smile!

Have fun with your christmas decorating. Don't be afraid to try something new. Maybe your favorite color.  As you see it is not an exact science but a keep on trying task.  Happy Decorating - Marianne
