New Years gives us a chance to pause and appreciate the past, analyze what we want from life, and bravely move into the future. This day always gets me energized as I map out the future I want to see in the new year. I'm keeping what is great, eliminating (where possible) the things that just bring me down, and planning lots of new experiences to enrich my life and the lives of my family and friends. one change i made today was to rearrange my living room furniture. I guess this could be my first tip of the year. Just by rearranging furniture and relocating some accessories can make a space feel like a whole new room and cost you nothing. Saw something over the holidays that you don't think you can live with out? Add that to the mix and you have a low cost redo.
One place to check out something new is the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams factory outlet in Hickory NC. This is a higher price point furniture line so you won't find yard sale prices but you might find a really unique or interesting piece of furniture to invest in and add to your collection.
My husband and I took a trip to check it out and the pictures you will see were taken on that day. Inventory changes frequently. Who knows what you will find.
I just loved these lime green stools and the bold black and white chevron rug, great for a bold statement. They had a large selection of chairs. This butter colored slipper chair was really nice.
I am liking all the curvy sectionals that are coming out. They are just so graceful. This one in red will definitely let everyone know you are not afraid of color.
Two of my favorite things are illustrated in the picture below. First upholstered headboards and beds are a great way to give softness and a feeling of quality to any bedroom. Second is silver nail head trim. I can't even put into words how much I like it. Silver is a long needed modern update to the stuffy looking bronze nail head trim of days gone by.
The white tufted chair on the left was fabulous. I very much would like a pair of these in a different color. Funny story, have you ever been shopping and as soon as someone sees you checking something out they immediately zone in on it? Well this happened with these chairs. I just had to get my husband to try them out and literally circled around a corner to round him up and come back. When I came back around the corner a woman was standing there asking a sales person to put a hold tag on them. She then proceeded to have the sales person carry one of them from place to place all around the showroom. This went on for some time. We left the store before she did but based on my past retail experience I can almost guarantee that she did not purchase them. Anybody know what I am talking about?
They did have a wide variety of case goods and accessories. I just got more excited by their upholstery and did not take too many pictures of the other.
This is the piece I would have taken home if it had been any other color than white. I would have put it in bay window on one side of the table we eat at in my kitchen. White leather is just too extravagant for my home. I don't want anything in my home that has to be off limits to my grandchildren.
This pearl finished leather chair was nice and I liked the brown and cream print on this swivel club chair.
They had several places where they displayed information about their company and their philosophy on the wall. I always find back stories and learning information about companies interesting. I guess that is the result of my school teacher mom and entrepreneur dad. I wanted to get a picture of this vignette and this women was a great sport to stay in the picture.
You can check out the web site for the factory store for more information and check out their main website for retail store information.
Your home should reflect your taste and interest. Here is hoping that you enjoy the process of seeking out those specials items that say who you are, you enjoy the rearranging or just starting over, and you have a wonderful, prosperous, healthy 2012.
